Tuesday 02/15/2011

Yet another beautiful and warm day. Mountain temps hit 41 at the top and 49 at the base. UV index has been at 10 for the last 5 days. The girls came out in their bikinis but I didn't have my camera. The snow continues to melt AWAY. However, the forecast beginning on Thursday calls for SNOW, SNOW and more SNOW thru Sunday. Skiing in these conditions are good, but you have to call it a day by 2:30pm. One more day of sun tomorrow.

The snow melts quickly and at night it freezes rock hard. The skiing condition are much like Spring. Early morning, their is some ice. Mid-morning the snow starts to soften and by the afternoon it is Very soft.

Sunday 02/13/2011

It is hard to image that less than 4 days ago temps were below zero. This morning it was +21. What a difference. After church, we went for a walk on the lake. Even a light jacket was too much. Even Benny was trying to cool down. In the afternoon, the Kite Skiers were trying to do their thing, but the wind wasn't there. The kites all laid on the ground, the kids started to party.
TOTAL sunshine for the next 3 days.

Saturday 02/12/2011

Today was a light jacket day. Temps in the 20s and 30s, perfect for snow shoeing. The trails were well marked and not many people on the trails. After snow shoeing, we returned home to watch the Kit Sking contest on Lake Dillon.

Friday 02/11/2011

The warm up has started. This morning the low temp was only +1. Temps going up to high 20's and low 30's by Sunday. Today was another great day on the slopes. You need to remember to put sunscreen on. This weekend on Lake Dillon is the Kite Skiing contest. The lake will be crowded with skiers showing off their talents. On Sunday, they will be offering free rides. I may try it. Pray for WIND.

Thursday, February 10, 2011

I guess -13 degrees is the lucky number. That's how cold it was again this morning. We went to Keystone and only a few more cars in the parking lot but fewer on the slopes. Again we had the slopes to ourselves. With the frigid temperatures snow that falls on the trees remain frozen on the tree limbs. At the end of the day, we watched the grooming snow cats come up the mountain and start their daily routine of preparing the trails for tomorrow.

Wednesday 02/09/2011

This morning it was -13 but the sun was out, no wind and it actually felt warm. We went to Keystone to ski and had the WHOLE mountain to ourselves. No lift lines and not many snow boarders allowed us a great day of skiing. After lunch we became cold. Temps didn't warm up past -5 so we decided to call it a day. Since we were home by 2:30, we decided to go to Copper Mt and go see Mo at the JJ bar and grill. He starts his music at 3:15 and ends at 5:30. It was a GREAT day.
