Thursday 03/17/2011 St. Patty's Day

The started off as if we were in for the BIG STORM. But it never happened. It was very windy and MILD. Temps were again in the 40s. The snow became very soft. We called it a day around 1pm. After lunch we started to try and find our St Patty's day party. We went to 3 different bars, and while people were dressed up, the only bar that corn beef and cabbage was the Dam Brewery. We should have gone there first. We did listen to Irish music in the car travelling from bar to bar. It was a good St Patty's Day. Maybe the luck of the IRISH will bring some some and cold temps.

Wednesday 03/16/2011

Just as fast as the snow comes down, with temps in the 40s, the snow melts away. Another warm and sunny day. The Spring Breakers are in full force. However, I think they all eat together. From about 11:30am to 1:30pm, the slopes become empty. Though with the high temps you can't ski after 1pm. The snow is like frosty root beer. In Denver temps are likely to hit 80 degrees. In Keystone when we stopped skiing at 1:15pm, it was 51 degrees. Maybe tomorrow with the LUCK of the IRISH, it will be cooler and maybe some snow will fall.

Tuesday 03/15/2011

It was a beautiful morning. About 3 inches of snow had fallen overnight. The temps were headed into the low 40s today. It is really SPRING Skiing. The lift crowds are back but bearable.

Monday 03/14/2011

It has been a beautiful day. Skiing at keystone wasn't too bad. The lift lines were a little longer but manageable. There were however ALOT of KIDS. You can add the Spring Breakers from Florida to the list of Texas and Georgia. Hopefully the crowds will not get any bigger and they will be gone by Saturday. Temps in Denver have been running in the high 60s and low 70s. In the mountains it remains in the high 30s.

Sunday, March 13, 2011

Surprise, Surprise. - There was a 4 inch snow overnight. It covered up all of the dirty snow that was still around. It was a beautiful morning. We usually don't ski on the weekend but we decide to go to Keystone. Spring Break has started. It was crowded with many of the visitors from Texas and Georgia. Because the snow fell in the early morning hours, the trails weren't groomed. This caused many of the NEW skiers to be all over the trails with many of them falling down. We only skied about 2 hours and went home. It was tooo
dangerous. Hopefully tomorrow the trails will be groomed and conditions will be MUCH better.

Saturday 03/12/2011

The weather continues to be sunny and mild with temps in the 40s. We went snow shoeing at Breckenridge Nordic Center. The trail begins high above the town. As you proceed up the trail, you come across an igloo with a wood door and then pass under the gondolas that are taking skiers to the top. While the snow is melting quickly in town, there is plenty on the trails. At the end of the trail there is a warming hut with a fireplace and couches. You rest up for the trip down the mountain. We covered about 6 1/2 miles in about 4 hours.

Friday, March 11, 2011

The weather has really taken a turn. The snow is starting to disappear in town but luckily the mountains have been able to keep most of the snow. There is a 10-15 degree difference between the town and the top of the ski resorts. Skiing at Keystone remains good. They do a good job of grooming the trails. If you decide not to drive, you can always take the bus. The Summit Stage bus is FREE.
